Visit Fort Myers Beach when you are in Southwest Florida. It is approximately a half an hour drive to the beach area from Naples. Just take Bonita Beach Road west to the Gulf and turn north to Ft. Myers Beach. You will pass Lovers Key State Park which is another special attraction.
This beach is known to be very safe because of its shallow water and no undertow. It is beautiful and wide-open so you can actually walk the entire distance of seven miles. The town also houses a shrimp fleet which is extraordinarily picturesque.
This beach destination offers many activities and attractions to keep you busy. Besides the beautiful beach with its sunset views, you will find rentals for water equipment such as wave runners and fishing charters, casino boats, and the Key West Express which is an express ride to Key West via the Gulf of Mexico.
For the adventuresome, there are parasail rides available!
How lucky if you can visit the Beach during one of the special activities sponsored by the community. Three great events are the Shrimp Festival, the Blessing of the Fleet, and the Sand Bash Competition.
The Sand Bash Competition includes teams of two from all over the world who compete in sand sculpting. They create one-of-a-kind masterpieces which are a joy to behold.
A 600-foot fishing pier is located at the Lynn Hall Memorial Park and offers a great place to watch the sunset. Another park, at the northern end of the island, is Bowditch Point Regional Park. It has walking trails that will lead you through a variety of environments including the beach. There are hotels for those who wish to stay in the area.
Take time to visit Times Square. This downtown area has wonderful boutique shops, restaurants and is adjacent to the Ft Myers Beach Pier.
It is exciting and entertaining to watch the various street performers. They work for tips only and are subject to strict guidelines. You will find performers working at various times between 10am to midnight daily.
