The Naples Jazz Orchestra is a wonderful attraction in Naples Florida. It is just one of the special things to do in Naples that gives this South Florida area a wonderful home-town feeling.
On a beautiful evening with a slight Gulf breeze, a few friends met in downtown Naples and were delighted to be entertained by the Naples Jazz Orchestra in the Cambier Park Band Shell.
Along with well over one-thousand others who brought their blankets or lawn chairs, we enjoyed the full two-hour concert honoring Stan Kenton and his band.
It was a delightful remembrance for one and all as we tapped our toes to the wonderful music of an era gone by.
It was thrilling to hear a young man play his trombone with the orchestra. He played beautifully and is an example of the talent we may look forward to in the Naples Youth Jazz Band. Tryouts for the Naples Youth Jazz Band are among high school musicians and are held during the summertime.
Get ready to get the lawn chairs out for the concert they are working on now. The first concert is scheduled for January 9, 2012 and will feature the music of Count Basie. Their second concert of the season is titled “Celebrating the music of Benny Goodman” and will be presented January23, 2012. It will feature the world-renowned clarinetist Allan Vache.
Our hats off to the founder of the Naples Jazz Orchestra, Bob Stone, As musical director for the band, he has over 40 years of musical experience including professional performance engagements with some of the top musical headliners in the country.
