The history of the Pier is that it was built as a freight and passenger dock in 1888. In 1922 a fire destroyed most of the historical structures but the pier itself survived. It has been rebuilt after 3 hurricanes damaged it in 1910, 1926 and 1960.
Everyone who visits the pier enjoys the beautiful view of the Gulf shore line and the excitement of watching dolphins at play and pelicans looking for food. People of all ages visit the pier and many enjoy their favorite sport, fishing! The pier offers areas where the fish can be cleaned and parts thrown back in the gulf to the delight of the pelicans or other sea birds. Others just enjoy walking the pier or sitting on one of the many benches to observe the gorgeous view and to watch the people strolling or fishing.
There are restroom accommodations just off the pier. A small concession stand with pop, water and light snacks is located on the pier.
