SHARK VALLEY

Shark Valley National Park is a must-see for a day of fun and adventure in South Florida.

It is located in the northern region of Everglades National Park. From Naples, Florida you need to plan 1-1/2 hours for the 75 mile trip. On the way to the park, via US 41 South, you will discover the smallest post office in the United States at Ochopee. It is just a few miles east of the junction at SR29. A little further on, you will come across Clyde Butcher, Big Cypress Gallery. The photography is exceptional and a true reflection of the area.

Shark Valley has an exciting open-air tram tour which travels through the “River of Grass” and is led by an experienced naturalist who details life in the everglades. Along the two hour tour you will see wildlife of all kinds and various plant species.

You will also be introduced to the unique ecosystem of the wetlands. Midway of the tour you will be able to view the peaceful area of the Everglades for twenty miles in all directions from a 45-foot high observation deck. It is easily accessible as there is a gradual ramp to the top, not a staircase!

Biking is a popular way to view the Everglades at your own pace.

The 15-mile paved road with no hills or rough terrain makes it ideal for biking.

The trip will take approximately two to three hours depending on how often you stop. Visitors may rent bicycles on a first come-first serve basis.

At the visitor center, you will find a gift shop which offers everything from books to T-shirts. They also have a stock of required forgotten items such as sunscreen and batteries.

Insider tip: This beautiful national park is one of the many unique attractions that Denise visit as often as possible. Their families and friends love it too.
